What are the types of Indie Fever?

Compulsive Independent Filmmaking can be categorized into two types: “Action” Independent Filmmaking and “Escape” Independent Filmmaking.

In “Action” Independent Filmmaking, the filmmaker is addicted to the thrill of risk-taking as his or her “substance of choice,” much in the same way that a cocaine addict is hooked on cocaine. The “Action” itself becomes the drug. The “Action” Filmmaker typically engages in the pursuit of trying to win Film Festivals, since part of the adrenaline rush is in the appearance or identity as a “winner.”

“Escape” Independent Filmmaking occurs when the Filmmaker seeks to blot out some discomforting feelings or emotional life crisis. The action of Independent Filmmaking is secondary to the numbing effect of the activity. “Escape” filmmakers prefer more singular outlets such as small personal films that have a “social” or “personal” theme, where they can avoid the pressures of making a financial profit. Men tend more towards “Action” Independent Filmmaking, and women tend to become “Escape” Independent Filmmakers

An “Escape” filmmaker may make films about himself or herself  that no one (including family) wants to see.
